Chester Twp: Having county handle police dispatch gets us ahead of the curve

Township officials have decided to sign a contract with the county to provide radio dispatch services for police and other emergency personnel.

The new contract will cost approximately $8,000 more per year than the current contract with Washington Township but will save money in the long run because the technology upgrade will put the township in compliance with a state mandate requiring a digitized 911 system by 2012, officials said.

The Township Council unanimously voted at its Sept. 15 meeting to authorize Mayor William Cogger to sign the new contract.
